With lockdown restrictions easing across the UK, many of us are already starting to plan our much-needed reunions with family and friends. Whether you've been on top of your beauty routine or maybe let it slip a little while being stuck at home, now's the time to spring clean your skincare! We've put together our top five tips for gorgeous, glowing skin:

Always use SPF

We've said it before and we'll say it again, always use a daily SPF with broad spectrum protection! Sun damage is responsible for premature skin ageing, leading to things like fine lines, wrinkles and age spots appearing long before you're meant to have them! When choosing a moisturiser, always look for one ideally with a minimum SPF of 15 or above. If you've got particularly pale skin or are prone to burning, you might want to reach straight for SPF50.

Another very important thing to remember is to reapply your sunscreen throughout the day. While you're out enjoying the heat, the sun actually breaks down the protective SPF that you're wearing. It can be tricky to reapply if you've got other products on such as foundation or blusher, but there's plenty of ways to get around it! Try dabbing on your sunscreen with a beauty blender to carefully place it without wiping off your makeup.

Looking for top-notch sun protection? The Organii SPF 50 Sun Milk. Enriched with antioxidants, this lightweight formula protects your skin without feeling too heavy or greasy.

Use a light moisturiser on warm days

We switch up our wardrobe when the temperatures soar, so why not do the same for your skincare routine? Thick moisturisers that are packed full of rich oils and emollients are great for the winter months and at bedtime, but not so much in the summer sunshine. These types of moisturisers create a protective barrier on the skin, which can actually prevent sweat from getting out of your pores on hot days. Not only can this lead to breakouts, but it can also feel pretty uncomfortable too.

Instead, go for a lightweight moisturiser with SPF. You can usually notice the difference straight away - these types of moisturisers glide on and feel more like a serum than a thick mask formula. If you're not sure where to start, we'd recommend taking a look at the Rose Hydrate Radiance Day Cream from Superfacialist. Packed with nourishing ingredients like cucumber and rose water, this is great for all kinds of skin types.

Give your skin its daily dose of Vit C!

Skin looking a little tired and dull? You might be tempted to use exfoliants to try and buff it up, but there's a little miracle ingredient that's here to help. Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, which is a hero antioxidant that helps to brighten and refresh your skin. But that's not all - it can also help to improve the efficiency of your SPF and provide protection against the sun's rays.

So, how does it brighten your skin? It stops abnormal pigmentation, which appears as patches or dots of darker skin. Over time, vitamin C helps to lighten these patches, improving your overall complexion. Of course, there's no quick fix when it comes to skincare - it usually takes a few weeks before you start noticing the results.

Did you know that you can also use Vitamin C to brighten other areas of your body? The Vitamin C Brightening Body Lotion from The Solution gives you an all-over radiant glow!

Take care when using chemical exfoliants

The skincare industry is abuzz with ingredients like AHAs and BHAs, but what do they actually do? Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) and beta hydroxy acids (BHAs) help to clear away dead skin cells, leaving your skin brighter and more radiant. Popular types include glycolic acid, lactic acid, and salicylic acid.

While they can offer fantastic results, it's important for you to protect your skin while using them. AHAs and BHAs increase your skin's sensitivity to the sun, they can also react with ingredients like Vitamin C, which is all the more important with summer on its way! It's often best to use them just before you go to bed, so your skin isn't left overly sensitive while you're out and about.

Looking to get started with chemical exfoliants? We'd recommend starting with a low concentration formula, such as the Exfoliating Skin Resurfacing Multi-Acid Facial Pads from Elemental Herbology. With 5% glycolic acid, these handy cleansing pads exfoliate while also nourishing your skin.

Start adding serums to your routine

If you haven't already, why not try adding serums into your daily skincare routine? A powerful step between cleansing and moisturising, serums are lightweight formulas that contain plenty of skin-loving ingredients. There's an endless amount out there to suit all skin types, but some of the most popular include hyaluronic acid, bakuchiol, niacinamide, and vitamin C.

Our favourite serum at the moment is the Skin Rescue Niacinamide Serum from Bye Bye Blemish. This powerful serum helps to minimise the appearance of pores, helping to balance your overall complexion.
